We’re following up with the final Factory Ride Award Winner, Liam Dodds, who is heading into his off season in Revelstoke BC. At only 17 years old, Liam has already been racing for 10 years!
“I started riding motocross and racing in Pemberton BC at Green River MX, where I rode with my dad and brother. In 2016 we moved to Cranbrook BC and we raced mainly in Montana and Alberta. In 2020 we moved to Revelstoke, where I started racing the Future West provincial motocross series and Future West Arenacross in the red barns in Chilliwack.”
Liam had a very impressive 2025 season. He managed a 3rd overall in Open Intermediate at the 2024 Walton TransCan Grand National Amateur Championships and was awarded the Yamaha Factory Ride award.
“Winning the Factory Ride Award was definitely the best part of my 2024 season, and I have been working for 3 years to try and win that prestigious award. I raced the Western Canadian Amateur National earning two 3rd place finishes in Open Intermediate and 250 Intermediate. Racing in the 2024 Future West BC Motocross Provincial Championship series I finished 1st overall in 250 intermediate, 1st overall in Schoolboy 2, 2nd overall in Open intermediate and 3rd overall in Pro-Am. We made the trip to Quebec this year to race the Eastern Canadian Amateur National and I finished in the top 5 in both intermediate classes. Racing the Iron Horse Arena Cross series in Alberta I finished 5th overall in Pro-Am and 1st overall in Open Intermediate and Under 30.”
Liam has also dipped his toes into the pro ranks and showed how talented he really is earning a Pro National ranking of 26th overall and #58 next season! We reached out to Liam’s dealership Outlaw Motorsports to get a peek behind the curtain.
“Liam is a fantastic example of what it takes to succeed in the sport of motocross. Although extremely competitive and hardworking, Liam understands that results aren’t everything. He is polite in the pits, always willing to help, very appreciative of those who support him and volunteers at his local track. He is a great ambassador of the sport, and we are proud to be a part of his progression from an amateur to the pro ranks.”

Now that we are heading into the off season, especially with snow already flying out in BC, Liam uses the time to exercise and keep his endurance up.
“When I am not riding dirt bikes, I am very active in school sports including volleyball and basketball. I ride mountain bikes, play golf and in the winter I downhill ski. This winter I will be working on strength and endurance training so that I will be in top shape for my first full pro motocross season.”
Some racers are lucky enough to head south for a few weeks in the later winter months to get even more seat time on the bike. Liam is heading to California once again this spring to train and start getting ready for the 2025 season. He has been training with a coach there who has really helped develop his cornering speed and being able to ride the deeper and longer ruts.
Motocross racers are used to juggling work, life and riding and Liam is no exception to this. Monday mornings never come easy, be it work or school that’s getting you out of bed.
“I am in grade 12 at Revelstoke Secondary School and will be graduating in the spring of 2025. I work at the Roxy Movie Theatre here in Revelstoke and the owner Greg has been super flexible with my work schedule to allow for racing and training throughout the season.”
So many local employers are very supportive of their moto-kids and for that we thank you! Especially when planning a winter training program and setting your goals.
“My goal for 2025 is to come into the season ready to challenge for top 15 finishes in the Triple Crown Series 250 class and to hopefully make a name for myself. I will not be racing the amateur classes this year and I feel this will allow me to be fully focused, healthy and prepared to race the professional series. We are also working on building a sponsorship program to help me with my expenses and get to the races across Canada. My parents have been super supportive, but it is very expensive to race at the pro level and travel the country, so I will need some extra support. I am also looking at staying in Ontario to train between the Western and Eastern rounds so that I can be ready to race on the eastern tracks.”
Yamaha Motor Canada are thrilled for Liam and his 2024 season results, he is a fantastic ambassador for the sport. Building on his talent year after year, 2025 looks big and bright for this young racer on the bLU cRU.
